God Leads His Dear Children Along

George A. Young was a poor minister who labored as a carpenter to provide for his family. After years of struggle and hardship, he was able to build a humble house for him and his family. One day, as George was preaching in a different city, some young local delinquents set fire to his home, completely destroying it.
In 1903, George, under inspiration, wrote the words and music score to the hymn “God leads His dear children along.”
Years later, in an interview, his wife of many years stated “God gave us a wonderful life together; he led us day by day. We had so much of Jesus.“ It is presumed the song was written as a testimony of George’s unwavering faith in God, amidst trials and hardships.
